About Bulgaria



Bulgaria is a country in South Eastern Europe with a turbulent history. The ancient natives were the Thracians. They are described by many antique authors such as Homer, Herodotus, and Tukiditus as a people dedicated to the land, feasts and wars. At the same time the Greeks establish many offshore colonies at the Black sea and at the Aegean see coasts thus creating the ancient history of this region, saturated with many myths, histories and legends. With The Roman Empire expansion the land of the Thracians fall within the Roman rule at the time of The Emperor Augustus. The Empire builds cities, roads, military garrisons, and justice courts. The nowadays capital Sofia was found by the Romans city of Serdica. Many events with a global importance have happened here such as the founded by the Apostle Paul first Christian church in Europe in the town of Philippi.

Later on the great migration of peoples in the lands of nowadays Bulgaria are flooded with many tribes. The weakened Roman Byzantium authority allows the tribe of the Bulgars manages to occupy and to establish a State with constantly changing borders ranging between the Danube to the North and the Aegean Sea to the South, and Black Sea at East to the Adriatic Sea at West. Ethnically the new nation is based on the native Thracians, Greeks, the then Macedonians and the dominating Bulgars which give the name of the Bulgarian State.

In the medieval times Bulgaria is a Christian Orthodox State, ruled by a Tsar (King) which comes from Caesar - the title of the Roman Emperor. When in the end of the fourteenth century the Turks subdued the East the country has fallen under Ottoman rule until the end of the 19th century.

Today Bulgaria is a fast growing diversified economy which fundament is defined by the excellent natural and geographical conditions appropriate for the development of agriculture and tourism. The sea and river borders allow cheap and convenient transport connections. The airports are evenly distributed within the country in proximity to the largest cities. The country has a well qualified working force in knowledge of foreign languages - mostly English and German. Bulgaria has a developed production capacity in many industrial sectors, the banking and the insurance services are at a very good level.

Situated in the center of South East Europe, with plain, hilly and mountain lay, with a broad coastal strip and numerous mineral springs, Bulgaria is an excellent destination for all year round tourism.
